Why Should I Care About CHURCH Membership?
Why should I care about belonging to a church when I can worship God just fine without being on someone's membership roll? Where is the word “membership” found in Scripture? We hear these type of questions a lot, but the truth is that all of the confusion of membership can be solved by looking at The Great Commission found in Matthew 28:19-20.
Jesus gave us as believers the task of being His ambassadors (2 Corinthians 5:20), making disciples of all nations. While this may be a daunting task, it is important to remember that this call to spread the good news of Christ is not to be done alone. We are encouraged to come together in local bodies or churches to strengthen each other in our knowledge of God (Hebrews 10:25) so that we might be able to endure the hardships of the world together and also become stronger representatives of Christ.
Therefore, the role of membership at Faith is in place to give a believer the opportunity to take the next step as Christ’s ambassador. By becoming a member at Faith Baptist, you are essentially declaring to the church and those around you that Christ is first in your life. Membership is more than just writing your name on a sign-up sheet; it’s committing to the next stage of your spiritual walk with Christ. Not only that, but you are embraced into a family of believers that strive each week to live out The Great Commission together.

What is required for membership?
Salvation in Christ
Because membership exists to give believers a place to come together and strengthen their relationship with Christ so that they may be stronger representatives of Jesus, all members must have a personal relationship with God by accepting Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
Baptism is the picture of new life in Christ (1 Peter 4:21) and perfectly symbolizes our death, burial, and resurrection with the risen Savior. Not only is it commanded in Scripture (Matt. 28:19; Acts 2:41, 8:38; Galatians 3:27; Mark 16:16; Rom. 6:1-11), but it is also an act of obedience to the Lord and the chance to publicly profess one’s allegiance with Christ. As such, baptism is only intended for those who have professed Jesus Christ as Lord. We baptize by immersion, for we believe this best exemplifies the concept of being baptized into Jesus’ death (entering into the water) as well as baptized into the newness of life found in Christ (coming out of the water).
If you are a believer but have never been baptized, we ask that you take that next step in your faith before becoming a member. However, if you have already been baptized by immersion, then all we need from you is a letter or something in writing from your previous Baptist church stating that you have received Christ and experienced baptism by immersion, or by your statement of faith.
