How To Be Confident Before God

How To Be Confident Before God   I John 4:17-21

Main theme of I John - 1:3 - that the deep love and fellowship the apostles knew with the Father, Christ and one another would be secured by us.

Textual Study

Verse 16 concluded with John’s surety of God’s love; it was something John knew and believed.  When a believer continues to “Experience Faith” in a circle of believers who love one another, it gives proof that the individual and Christ are also experiencing a deep love for one another!

Love gives Christians confidence in the Day of Judgment.  Vs.  17-18

Verse 17 reveals that the love being perfected in us generates confidence regarding the Judgment Seat of Christ.  II Corinthians 5:9-10

Confidence, rather than fear, is grounded in our likeness to Jesus, a likeness that continually ____________________  __________.

We cannot love God while simultaneously hating a brother or sister in Christ. Vs. 19-21

Our ability to love God and others starts and endures with God’s love.

The apostle John makes a radical statement: it is harder to love _________ than __________________.

Verse 21 closes with this powerful statement - whoever loves God is ___________________________ to love other believers.

Embrace the love of God by entering into a personal relationship with Him and receiving salvation through Christ Jesus!

Consider Gary Chapman’s “The 5 Love Languages” of time (Hebrews 13:5; John 14:16-18), physical touch (I John 1:1), gifts (John 3:16; I John 4:10), encouraging words (John 14:1-3) and service (John 6/feeding 5000, John 13/washing disciples’ feet).  Jesus fulfilled all of these!  How are we doing?
