When Spiritual Leaders Clash

The Christians who lived alongside Jesus and then started and expanded His church are our heroes today. BUT THEY WERE MEN AND WOMEN JUST LIKE US! What happens when longtime friends and co-leaders get in such a contentious disagreement that they divorce their ministries and split from one another? Let’s take a look and learn from Acts 15:36-41

When Spiritual Leaders Clash

Acts 15: 36-41

 I. A Contentious Disagreement Leading to a Split

Paul’s argument was based upon biblical accountability.  Barnabas’ argument was based upon biblical mercy.  Which person was right?  __________________!

“Above all, maintain ___________ for one another, since __________ covers a multitude of sins.”  I Peter 4:8

Paul and Barnabas reunited later. (I Corinthians 9:6) And Mark was strengthened to the point that Paul came to depend on his friendship and strength. (Colossians 4:10; II Timothy 4:11; Philemon 24)

II. Some Thoughts on Inevitable Disputes

God hard-wired each of us to be either __________________-oriented or ____________-oriented.

God designed and permitted anger, but not sin that so easily comes with it.   (Ephesians 4:26)

Our temperament (personality) and background result in one of three ways we respond to anger.

  1. Confronter (goal-oriented)
  2. _____________________ (people-oriented)
  3. Transporter  (goal-oriented or people-oriented)
